The National Finals of the Non-Destructive Testing Innovation Practice and Application Competition, a sub-event of the 2026 National University Students' Mechanical Engineering Innovation and Creativity Contest, was grandly held at Northeast Petroleum University from July 24 to 26, 2026. The event was sponsored by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES), and undertaken by the Chinese Society for Nondestructive Testing (CSNDT) under CMES and Northeast Petroleum University.

      The competition consisted of three regional divisions — the Southern Division, Northern Division, and Western Division — followed by the National Finals. Spanning seven months, the event attracted participation from 1,224 teams comprising 3,672 students across 107 universities nationwide, setting a new record in the event’s history. After rigorous multi-round selection, a total of 660 outstanding students from 59 universities advanced to the National Finals to compete for the first and second prizes.​
      Distinguished guests and leaders attended the finals to guide the competition and witness the participants’ outstanding performances and mutual progress, including Shen Gongtian, Chairman of the Chinese Society for Nondestructive Testing (CSNDT); Ji Jingyuan, Secretary-General of CSNDT; Tu Yanan, Chair of the CSNDT Education, Training and Popular Science Committee; and Li Wei, Vice President of Northeast Petroleum University, together with other industry experts and university administrators.​

      With the theme of "Smart Inspection Empowers Development, Ingenuity Lights up Youth Dreams", this competition closely follows the development trend of the intelligent non-destructive testing industry. It is divided into two modules: the Regular Competition featuring practical operations of three mainstream testing technologies including ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing and penetrant testing; and the Innovation Competition focusing on the cutting-edge research of AI intelligent film evaluation.

      As the technical and equipment supporter for the NDT technician skills contest of this event, Nantong UNION assembled a professional technical support team and supplied high-quality PXUT series ultrasonic flaw detectors, delivering solid technical backing for the smooth delivery of the competition.
